Waveney District Council and Pulse have signed contracts to commence the comprehensive and exciting refurbishment of Waterlane Leisure Centre.
The multi-million redevelopment scheme, will radically refresh the site and provide customers witth exceptional, modern facilities. The project was boosted by a grant from Sport England, in support of the swimming development planned for the centre, which includes a brand new teaching pool and a moveable floor for the existing main pool.
Waveney residents can also look forward to brand new squash, table tennis and Martial Arts provision. In addition, Waterlane's changing rooms will benefit from improvements to layout, as well as access for users with reduced mobility and their carers. Lowestoft Sixth Form College students' will also benefit from the development with free use of the facilities.
During September 2009, the Sports Hall closed and was refitted as a temporary gym, fitness studio and small sports hall, this offers existing gym and club members a facility to use whilst the rest of the centre is closed. The Sports Hall reopened in October as the rest of the centre (including the swimming pool, squash, activity room, table tennis room and changing facilities) closed.

The first stage is the demolition of the middle section of the existing complex, leaving the original swimming pool building to the left and the original sports hall to the right, both of which will be redeveloped immediately following the completion of the middle sector.

In addition a temporary entrance, reception area and changing facilities have also been created. This provides a continued service to existing gym and club members whilst the rest of the centre is closed for re-development.

MAIN ENTRANCE & RECEPTION
The new extended entrance provides a contemporary focal point to the facility. Featuring an entrance cube and full height glazing to the restaurant area. The main doors lead through to an open plan lobby with reception point.
CAFEBAR & KITCHEN
As you enter the open plan lobby area you are greeted with a reception desk and bar/food servery, for the spacious cafe bar area to the left, along with a lounge/waiting area to the right. The full height glazing creates a light airy feel to the Cafe Bar & Restaurant with is serviced by a custom designed kitchen. Access control barriers restrict entrance to the leisure facilities.
ATRIUM
Large spacious atrium, provides access to all areas with feature curved glass walls and stylish finishes.
SWIMMING POOL
The main 25m x 12.5m swimming pool is undergoing extensive refurbishment, including complete retiling and installation of new feature ceiling and lighting system.
LEARNER POOL
New 12m x 7m leaner pool with moveable floor.

Spectacular tiered, seated viewing gallery, overlooking both the main swimming pool and the learner pool.
THERMAL SUITE
The latest in luxury thermal suite technology, incorporating steam room, ice station, sauna, experience shower, heated loungers, foot spa and relaxartion zone.
VILLAGE CHANGE
Premium quality village changing area, fully tiled with underfloor heating and incorporating contemporary lockers complete with benches, vanity units and mirrors. Designated group changing areas are provided with benches for school and family use. A seperate changing area including accessible WC and shower with a designated locker for disabled visitors, is available within the village change.
FITNESS SUITE - GROUND FLOOR
New 100 plus station fitness suite extends over 2 floors with feature keyhole staircase with stylish stainless steel balustrades and handrails. Fully air conditioned the state-of-the-art suite features Pulse cardiovascular and resistance equipment with SmartCentre gym management software and a dedicated freeweights zone. The Pulse cardiovascular equipment features self-powered, wire-free technology and provides considerable energy savings by eliminating the need for mains power and puts significanly less demand on the air conditioning systems.

DANCE STUDIO
The dance studio features large full height mirrors, Junckers silva-sport sprung flooring and is fully air-conditioned and incorporates the latest sound system technology.
GROUP CYCLE STUDIO
A dedicated air-conditioned group cycle studio, features the latest hi-tech Pulse group cycles.
DRY CHANGE AREA
High quality male, female and disabled changing areas, full tiled, complete with lockers, benches, vanity units, mirrors and stainless steel fixtures and fittings.
SQUASH COURTS
Two new squash courts are being constructed.

A new hall is being constructed for martial arts and table tennis etc.
SOFT PLAY & PARTY AREA
Existing squash courts are being converted into the latest children's play kingdom complex, with a large multi-purpose area for parties and functions, which will be serviced by dedicated male, female and disabled toilets.

The existing sports hall will be fully refurbished towards the end of the project, following the new fitness suite and studios opening. This will allow the temporary gym to be removed and refurbishment works to take place.

The temporary reception and office area will be converted into conference facilities, comprising two meeting rooms with moveable wall, toilets and easy access to the main hall to accommodate major functions.
