An extensive redevelopment of existing leisure facilities has just started in Tameside thanks to a partnership between Tameside Council, Tameside Sports Trust and the UK’s leading total fitness solutions provider, Pulse Fitness.
The £7 million investment will see major redevelopment programmes at The Copley Centre in Stalybridge, Hyde Leisure Pool and Ashton Pool over the next 18 months. Pulse will project manage the refurbishment of the three leisure centres including the
The Copley Centre will include a 130 station fitness suite with disabled lift, a 24 station school fitness suite, a new dance studio and health suite and refurbishment of all existing facilities. Ashton Pools is receiving a new 63 station fitness suite, new changing village for the pool, new changing rooms and front entrance as well as overall refurbishment of the site. Hyde Leisure centre will gain a new 50 station fitness suite, changing rooms, health suite and dance studio, a new café and improved disabled access.
Neil Chaisty, Head of Tameside Sports Trust commented, “The new facilities will help us to get more people in the Tameside region active. By providing state of the art facilities with the most up to date equipment local people will have access to many different forms of activity. We are aiming to get 1700 people a year active in Tameside to meet the targets set by Sport England of 2 000 000 people participating in active recreation by 2012.”
Commenting on the winning of such a prestigious contract, Chris Johnson of Pulse Fitness said, “Pulse and Tameside Sports Trust worked together to deliver a great facility at Medlock Leisure Centre. This will be used as a blue print for the redevelopment of the three other centres. We are very pleased to be working in partnership with Tameside Sports Trust and Tameside Council again and will be producing facilities that will provide easy access to sport and leisure for the whole of the community.”
