The Parks Leisure Centre, Barrow is currently undergoing major construction and renovation work to enhance the leisure facilities it provides to the local community.
Barrow Borough Council has funded the £1.2million improvement scheme, which includes a 10-year partnership agreement with Pulse. Pulse, the UK’s leading total leisure solutions company, specialises in leisure facility development. As part of the agreement Pulse will project manage the design and build of the new centre, supply state of the art fitness equipment and provide sales and marketing support.
The new centre will boast more than 60 stations in the new Club Pulse fitness suite, a dedicated kid’s gym, refurbished dry changing facilities and a new reception and spectator’s area. Members will also benefit from a 140sqm dance studio.
As part of the development Pulse has created a zone dedicated for children aged between 8 and 15 years of age. The new kids gym, called ‘Club Max’ will feature the newly launched Pulse ‘Vibe’ range, which includes Pursuit Cycle, Extreme Elliptical Trainer, Fluid Rower, Ascent Elevated Treadmill, Fluid Upper Body Ergometer, Group Cycle, Fluid Recumbent Cycle, Absolo and the kids strength circuit.
To accommodate the new facilities, Pulse has maximised the space available by redesigning the current layout and introducing a second floor landing that will house the adult and junior fitness suites. Members at The Park will also have the luxury of a range of top quality features
including new oak lockers, under floor heating and a relaxing air-conditioned spectators area.
For more than 25 years Pulse has lead the way in sport and leisure facility development, to help Local Authorities create a state of the art leisure facility that meets DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) standards whilst providing the quality, style and status required to attract and retain local participation in sport.
“This is an exciting new development and it demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continually improving sporting facilities for the Barrow community,” comments Margaret Wilson, Centre Manager. “We hope the introduction of the kid’s gym will encourage children to participate in regular exercise in a fun environment.”
The project is expected to take 26 weeks to complete, opening in July 2008.
